About · Purpose & Methodology

About this archive.

A primary-source archive of the military service of Captain Jason Edward Schnatterle (formerly Capps). Its purpose is to assemble the documentary record in one place, label each claim by how it is anchored, and keep unverified analysis clearly separated from established fact.

Purpose

This site exists to gather a service record that is spread across Army personnel documents, a Marine Corps DD 214, government publications, and medical evaluations — and to present it as a single, internally consistent archive. It is written so that a reader can see, for any statement, exactly what anchors it.

Methodology

The archive follows three rules. First, it uses only content drawn from the underlying records and the subject's own account; it does not invent dates, units, names, or citations. Second, it separates established fact from sworn testimony from analysis pending verification, and labels each — the full scheme is set out on the Verification page. Third, where the record contradicts itself — the DD 214 grade entry, the unit-award date range — it preserves the contradiction verbatim and flags it rather than resolving it silently.

One category of statement — the scope of doctrinal influence on Signal Corps publications — is presented as the subject's analysis pending verification, not as fact, and remains so until the supporting documents are returned.

Authorship and tone

The archive is written in the third person and maintained by the subject of the record. First-person statements appear only inside clearly labeled witness panels, where they are presented as sworn testimony under penalty of perjury (28 U.S.C. §1746).

Biographical context

A separate background page documents early-career context, longstanding mentorship relationships, and related source material that informed the subject's path to commission. See Early Career & Mentors.
